Boron nitride has extremely high heat resistance and chemical inertia, as well as excellent thermal conductivity and electrical insulation. Due to these properties, boron nitride has become a versatile in industrial ceramic material: it can be used as sintered ceramics in high-temperature applications, as cubic boron nitride in wear-resistant abrasives and cutting materials, and as powder for the lubrication and separation of metal melts in high-temperature environments.
A graphite-like modification of boron nitride, often used as a mold release agent and lubricant. As a powder, it is delicate and soft, thus increasing the desired lubrication and separation effect. Compared with graphite, boron nitride is an ideal high temperature solid lubricant. The friction of boron nitride remains constant at the high temperature of 1000℃ prevailing in light metal foundries. Boron nitride has excellent separation properties and is not wettable with aluminum melt, which prevents the molten metal from sticking to the mold wall and helps the molten metal slide on the solution lining. It can effectively protect the die from corrosion and improve the service life of the die.
Boron nitride powder is an excellent heat conductor in plastics. In addition to high thermal conductivity, it also has good heat resistance and wear resistance, low dielectric constant and excellent insulation. When used in combination with thermoplastics, boron nitride can transform a plastic with poor thermal conductivity into a good heat conductor while providing electrical insulation.
